Deutsche Oper

Out of Berlin’s three operas, this one is by far the largest. Although established already in 1912, the original opera house was destroyed during WWII and the current building was built almost two decades later. This 1961-version of Deutsche Oper mirrors the architecture of its second era: in contrast to other opera houses, such as the Berlin’s court opera Unter den Linden, the auditorium is democratic in its design, as each and every seat offers a full view of the stage.

In the past, legendary artists performed at Deutsche Oper, including Luciano Pavarotti and Julia Varady. Today, the program focuses on modern adaptations, contemporary works, and interesting pieces that are neglected elsewhere.
