East Side Gallery

After its fall, most of the Berlin Wall was quickly torn down, but a stretch of 1316 meters was left, and in 1990, 118 international artists painted it over with over 100 murals. In 1991, this open-air street art gallery (the largest of its kind in the world) was listed as a national monument and has since become one of Berlin's most visited landmarks. The surroundings are a bit dull and reminiscent of the no-man's land around the Wall when it still stood, but this only enhances the attractiveness of the art and its political statements. Don't miss the most famous piece by Dmitri Vrubel, which shows Erich Honecker and Leonid Brezhnev kissing.
