Kaffee Alt Wien
Opened in 1922 and operating for decades as a traditional Viennese café, the Alt Wien (‘Old Vienna’) became something of a nightlife hub in the 80s and has since become famous for its highlighting of subcultural events and alternative student-oriented atmosphere. The walls are covered with Plakate (posters) and the lighting is characteristically low, making this the spot to discuss the latest and greatest underground shows and concerts with bohemian friends and artistically-inclined colleagues. Blurring the lines between a traditional Kaffeehaus and a modern Beisl, Café Alt Wien has character and plenty of it. Known for its infamous goulash and beer, as well as a mean Wienerschnitzel, come here to unwind, indulge, and catch-up on the hip happenings about town.
